F4U Corsair's first flight was made from an airfield in Guadulcanal. This uniquely designed fighter soon after, was deployed from ships patrolling the Pacific Ocean.They carried more payload than jets and could stay on station longer, according to military historians. The Corsairs were used for 90 per cent of all ground support missions for the first 10 months of the Korean War, by Navy and Marine Pilots.
